Mrs. Béata Uwamaliza HABYARIMANA, CEO of BK Group Plc
Mrs. Béata Uwamaliza HABYARIMANA is an economist and financial advisor by profession with over 19 years of experience in the financial industry in domestic, Pan-African and international institutions. Mrs. Béata Uwamaliza Habyarimana served as Minister of Trade and Industry from March 2021 to July 2022.
Prior to that she served as Deputy Managing Director of Bank of Africa, a multinational pan-African banking conglomerate, with banking operations in eighteen African countries.
She has also been the Chief Executive Officer of AGASEKE Bank, held Senior Management positions at Banque Populaire du Rwanda, and worked with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as well. Her area of expertise covers business reshuffling and organizational change. She played a key role in establishing the Financial Ethics and Compliance function within the Rwandan financial industry between 2010 and 2013.
Having been among the first female leaders in the Rwandan banking sector, she paid a personal focus on the persistent issue of women financial empowerment. Mrs. Béata is a founding member of New Faces New Voices Rwanda Chapter - a Pan-African advocacy group that focuses on expanding the role and influence of women in the financial sector- and a founding member of Rugori Investment Network, a new Trust Fund created by women and for women investment products. Mrs. Béata has also accumulated experience by siting on various Governance Bodies.
Mrs. Béata Uwamaliza Habyarimana is 47 years old, married with three children. She holds a Master of Business Administration majoring in Finance from Maastricht School of Management in Netherlands and a Bachelor degree in Public Economics from the University of Rwanda.
Emmanuel Nkusi Batanage, Head of Corporate affairs & Company Secretary
Emmanuel Nkusi is the BK Group Plc and Bank of Kigali Plc Company Secretary – Head of Corporate Affairs. Prior to this, he was the Chief Legal and regulatory Affairs Officer/Company Secretary of (KTRN Ltd) Korea Telecommunication Rwanda Networks Ltd.
He also served at Tigo Rwanda Ltd, a Millicom Inc. Subsidiary, as Legal Manager and Company Secretary.
Before joining the Telecommunication Industry, he served as Acting Head Legal and Company Secretary in (Banque Commerciale du Rwanda BCR) now I&M Bank and Head legal and Company Secretary at Ecobank Rwanda Ltd.
With 18 years’ experience (in both public sector –Supreme Court of Rwanda legal advisor - and private sector) he has been involved in various legal opinion drafting matters; contract drafting and negotiation; successful merger and acquisition transactions, taking part in solving conflicts, representing companies in arbitration and being part of regulatory investigations in both the Banking and Telecommunications industries.
With the extensive senior corporate legal advisory services experience, Emmanuel has earned required skills in managing legal complex problems and corporate governance exposure for Board of Directors’ affairs.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Law (LLB) and a Master’s degree in International Business Law. Emmanuel has participated in various certification programs on regulatory affairs management and legal advisory across the world. He is a Certified In-House Corporate Counsel from the Institute of Corporate Counsel USA – Association of Corporate Counsel, Washington DC.
He serves as Board member of the East African Business Council.
Christa Sangwa, is the Head of Investor Relations
Christa Sangwa is the Head of Investor Relations at BK Group Plc. She joined the bank in February 2017 in the CEO and Chairman’s office and moved on to the Investor Relations Department, under Finance. She is currently based in Nairobi, Kenya; where she heads Bank of Kigali Representative office.
Helping investors (current and potential) make informed decisions in their actions regarding the Group’s equity by providing up-to-date information about the Group’s operations, financials, and strategy is her mission.
Prior to joining BK, Christa worked as a Senior Funding Coordinator for The War Amps, a Canadian NPO; and prior to that, as an Information Officer for the Government of Canada.
Christa holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Science w/ Minor in Mathematics from the University of Ottawa, Canada.
