All the awards follow a central theme – they recognise institutions and individuals that demonstrate leadership, innovation, and momentum in the markets in which they excel. Bank of Kigali was recognised for showing dedication to promoting financial inclusion in Rwanda through a number of innovative financial solutions.

PECB Management System Certification

PECB Management System Certification is the highest level of an organization’s accomplishment, exemplifying the commitment towards continual improvement and sustainable business continuity. The certification covers all applicable elements of ISO/IEC 27001:2013 standard and applies to operations performed in Information Technology Division, Digital Factory, Disaster Recovery Site and Support Functions.

Credit Rating

Bank of Kigali is rated AA-/A1 by Global Credit Rating Co. The Bank is the first Rwandan company and bank to be rated by a credit rating agency. The rating reflects the Bank’s established domestic franchise value, strong capital position, its systemic importance, strong asset quality and financial performance. In 2012 the Bank’s long term rating was upgraded to AA- from A+ while its short term rating was maintained at A1 with a stable outlook.

Best Financial Reporting Company in Rwanda 2012

The Financial Reporting (FiRe) Award seeks to recognize excellence in Financial Reporting amongst institutions in the East African Region. It seeks to promote and institutionalize transparency, integrity, and accountability in the corporate reporting process.

Best African Listing 2012

The invitation-only Africa investor (Ai) 2012 Index Series Awards recognises stock markets, regulators, listed companies, fund managers, stock brokers and analysts who follow African Equities. Bank of Kigali was recognised as the Best African Listing following the completion of a US$62.5 million IPO, where the Bank emerged as the second domestic company to list on the Rwanda Stock Exchange. The issue was 2 times oversubscribed and generated significant interest from international, regional and local investors despite the adverse global market conditions.

Best East African Bank 2012/2014/2015

This award goes to a Bank operating either across a specific region or in one country within a region. The winner of the award in a bank that is seen to have excelled in the banking industry in that region by reaching out to new customers, offering new services, adopting inclusiveness by bringing the unbanked into the banking space, made use of new technologies and contributed to a stronger financial sector. Bank of Kigali was selected having demonstrated strong credentials across its range of activities and played an active role in driving economic growth in Rwanda and the region.

Bank of the Year 2009-2012

The Bank of the Year Award was introduced in 2000 by the Banker magazine and is given to leading commercial and investment banks world-wide in recognition of their achievements. The Banker is a publication of Financial Times Business Ltd, a member of the Financial Times group of companies. In 2011, the Banker chose to celebrate those banks that have shown resilience and provided good shareholder returns given the current volatility in global markets.

Best Bank in Rwanda 2009-2012

The Best Bank in Rwanda Award is bestowed by emeafinance magazine, a publication of London-based Exporta Publishing & Events Ltd. The publication’s African Banking Awards recognise the best banks throughout Africa based on key indicators such as market share, key deals, strategy and profitability.

Company of the Year Award, Innovation, Technology and Information Management Award and Financial Management and Innovation Award

The Company of the Year Award (COYA) was introduced in Rwanda in 2011 by the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM), an internationally acclaimed and respected institution dedicated to the development of the theory and practice of management based in Kenya. For this award, organisations are judged on the basis of the results generated having completed the Organisational Performance Index (OPI) process which gives organisations an innovative excellence model to enable the development of world class processes and innovation capability. In addition to the Company of the Year Award, Bank of Kigali was recognised as the winner in two category awards in the categories of Financial Management and Innovation, Technology and Information Management.
